Fourth Annual Project Meeting

An Informative Annual Project Meeting in Vienna. 

 

For the fourth annual project meeting, members of the REVERSE consortium travelled to Vienna, Austria.

All work packages and countries were well represented with both live and online participation.

It’s been a busy year since the consortium last gathered in person, and the meeting was both informative and inspiring.  

Now three years after clinical kick off, the project is moving into it’s third phase and the updates and progress made are exciting, with even more on the horizon!

Key Updates 
  • Ongoing data collection and database management​.
  • Point Prevalence Survey (PPS) 2 completed and PPS 3 on schedule.
  • MDS auditing questionnaires completed.
  • Completion of second External Quality Assessment with novel strains.
  • Online serious games translated into five languages and build out almost completed.
  • ABS implementation workshops completed.
  • REVERSE antibiotic guidance adoption and adaptation.
  • Validation of the ABS audit and feedback tool is ongoing.
  • ABS implementation calls fully completed.
  • Umbrella Review (systematic review of systematic reviews) published in the Journal of Hospital Infection.
  • Micro-costing work continues – high level interviews with each hospital now completed.
  • Protocols for the Discrete Choice Experiment (DCE) in Mozambique and Guyana finalised - submitted to ethics committee in Guyana and ready to submit in Mozambique.
  • New Communications Officer appointed and dissemination and communication activities optimised.
  • Promotional video accepted to ESCMID Networking Corner at ESCMID Global 2025.
  • 3 innovations officially recognised by the EU Innovations Radar -two women led. 
Coming Up
  • Complete SAP​.
  • Complete PPS 3 collection and sequencing of all remaining isolates PPS1 and 2.
  • Finalisation and launch of the Online Serious Game – Fight the Resistance!
  • Scoring IPC activities.
  • Complete the second phase of the REDCap tool validation, focusing on longitudinal audits.
  • Continue the data monitoring and support for all ABS implementations.
  • Start programming the sustainability period, ensuring that the practices are integrated into long-term hospital activities.  
  • Commencing ABS context analysis and progressing deeper analysis of all qualitative data in general (IPC and ABS).
  • Estimate the cost-effectiveness of the REVERSE intervention bundles and enhanced implementation support using a within-trial cost-effectiveness analyses​.
  • Start to incorporate costs at the societal level (e.g., productivity)​.
  • Start to consider the potential longer-term impact of interventions on antibiotic resistance in the population.
  • Start the budget impact analysis to assess affordability.
  • Data collection in Mozambique and Guyana​.
  • Piloting DCE, re-submission of the amended protocol.
  • Campaigns for International Nurses Day and World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week 2025. 
  • Showcasing more REVERSE science at ESCMID Global 2025, ICPIC 2025, and more national and international congresses.
