UKHSA Science Review Features REVERSE Case Study
We are proud to announce that a case study from the REVERSE project has been officially accepted for inclusion in the upcoming UKHSA Science Review under Health Impacts.
The case study, which focuses on the critical work of Work Package 6: Economic Effectiveness, demonstrates how innovative scientific research is directly supporting the UKHSA Science Strategy 2023-2033: Securing Health and Prosperity.
By evaluating the cost-effectiveness of integrated clinical interventions, this work provides a roadmap for reducing the burden of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in high-prevalence healthcare settings across Europe and beyond.
Why This Matters
Antimicrobial resistance is one of the most significant global health threats. The REVERSE project, funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme, is developing a multidisciplinary framework to combine:
- Infection Prevention and Control (IPC).
- Antibiotic Stewardship (ABS).
- Microbiology and Diagnostic Stewardship (MDS).
Work Package 6 specifically bridges the gap between clinical efficacy and economic sustainability. By developing a novel health-economic framework, our team is estimating the long-term population effects and cost-effectiveness of these life-saving interventions.
This ensures that the tools developed are not only scientifically sound but also practical for implementation in diverse, and often lower-resource, healthcare environments.
Looking Ahead
The full case study is already live on the UKHSA Research Portal and will be featured as a highlight during British Science Week 2026 (6-15 March).
This recognition underscores the UKHSA’s commitment to collaborative, world-class science that protects communities from infectious disease threats while fostering economic prosperity.
