What is it?

A World Café is a collaborative, interactive method for hosting large group discussions. It fosters open dialogue, knowledge sharing, and creative problem-solving in an informal, café-like setting. The goal is to harvest the collective wisdom of attendees by drawing on their knowledge and experiences, identifying common themes and patterns, and generating actionable outcomes.

As part of the REVERSE Conference, the World Café will discuss the question:

"How can we build capacity to better integrate infection prevention
and control (IPC) and antibiotic stewardship (ABS) in routine healthcare settings?"

Format

The World Café is an in-person discussion structured as follows:

  • Focused questions will guide discussion on specific sub-topics to the overarching question.
  • Each sub-topic focused questions will be assigned one table in the café. Participants at this table (6-7 per table) will discuss the question under guidance of a table moderator.
  • Moderators will capture insights visually using a flip chart or whiteboard next to the table.
  • While sub-topics and moderators remain at their tables, participants will rotate twice to cross-pollinate ideas. In total, participants can engage in three rounds of table discussion.
  • Discussion Round 1 begins from a blank sheet. At the beginning of Discussion Rounds 2 and 3, moderators will briefly summarise the key ideas harvested through previous rounds before inviting new groups of participants to build on them with additional insights.
  • The World Café will be wrapped up by each table moderator presenting a synthesis of their discussions, highlighting main themes, emerging patterns, and recommendations from all three rounds for their respective topic.
  • This will be followed by a shared conversation about key insights gathered through table conversations, and whether and how these might be applied locally in the participants' own contexts.

Programme

The World Café will be held in the Dick and Davy Bistro at University Hospital Zurich. Once all participants have gathered, further details on breakout rooms and tables will be shared.

Based on the format detailed above, the REVERSE World Café will follow this schedule:
